additional info re: budget vote

Dear Rondout Valley School District Community:

On Friday, May 1, 2020, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 202.26 which sets June 9, 2020 as the date for school districts to hold their annual budget vote and school board election. The Executive Order suspends various provisions of the Education Law and directs that the vote and election be conducted by an absentee ballot process in lieu of in-person voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the District was made aware of Executive Order 202.26 we have been working with the Ulster County Board of Elections and NTS, https://ntsdata.com/, to mail ballots to the 13,000 registered voters that reside in the Rondout Valley School District.

Today we were informed by NTS that there is a significant supply issue with envelopes, very similar to what happened with toilet paper and hand sanitizer in recent months but on a commercial level. Our District, along with many other districts in the State have been affected by this shortage. We have been assured that the company is working to resolve this issue in a timely manner.

This news is as concerning to us as a school district as it is to you as a voter. We will set up locked ballot boxes from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on June 9 on the main campus. One ballot box will be in front of the District Office and the other ballot box will be in front of the Middle School. If you believe that your mailed vote will not reach us in time for the June 9 deadline, we encourage you to use the locked drop-boxes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these unforeseen challenges in these difficult times.

Very truly yours,

Joseph Morgan, Superintendent
