governor extends deadline

Dear Rondout Valley School Community:

Governor Cuomo has issued Executive Order 202.39 that states any absentee ballot received by mail in the office of the District Clerk, or designee of the trustees or school board, by June 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm shall be canvassed and counted for the budget vote and election held on June 9, 2020. No absentee ballots shall be accepted after 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020, except those absentee ballots received by mail.

In addition, if school districts are using a receptacle(s) for receipt of hand- delivered absentee ballots, such receptacle(s) must be closed and removed by 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020. All absentee ballots shall be canvassed and counted after 5:00 pm on June 16, 2020. The ballots received by hand delivery shall remain unopened pending delivery of mailed ballots and shall be canvassed after 5:00 pm on June 16, 2020.

In summary, the Rondout Valley School District will have locked ballot boxes available on June 8th and 9th located in front of the District Office and in front of the Middle School both days between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. After 5:00 PM on June 9th the District will only accept ballots by mail. All mailed in ballots must be received by 5:00 PM on June 16th.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to adapt to the updates we receive from the Governor’s Office.

Very truly yours,

Joseph Morgan, Superintendent
