sports update graphicRondout Valley High School (RVHS) seniors Mackenzie Heyl and Johnny Soi recently signed their letters of intention to play sports in college next fall. Mackenzie will be attending Pace University and continuing her journey as a field hockey athlete, and Johnny will be attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell as a lacrosse athlete.

Mackenzie made the Varsity Field Hockey team as a Midfielder when she was a freshman. She was recruited by Ithaca, Geneseo, Hartwick, and New Paltz, among others, and ultimately decided to play at Pace University, a Division II school. Rondout Valley Field Hockey Coach Nanette Simione, who is also a School Counselor at the Junior High School, said during the event, “While Mackenzie only had two goals this season, she had 14 assists and that speaks volumes. She is truly a complete player as she can play anywhere on the field. We are excited to see her on the next part of her field hockey journey.”

Johnny found his love for lacrosse at a young age, and has played on the Varsity Lacrosse team since his freshman year. He is the first Rondout Valley athlete to move on to a Division I Lacrosse program. Rondout Valley retired teacher and Lacrosse Coach Anthony Tocco shared, “Johnny is a living example of our program's ideals, a fierce competitor who maintains his humility, and team leader who demonstrates patience and empathy for developing teammates. I am proud to be able to say that I coached this young man.”

The festive signing events, which were held at the Meehan/Million Turf Field, were attended by teammates, administrators, friends, family members, and coaches.
