Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are contacting you today to make you aware of a physical altercation that occurred on one of our school buses this afternoon, Tuesday, February 8, between two students in which one student suffered an injury requiring medical attention. Parents of the students who were on the bus at the time of the incident have been contacted.

We want to assure you that we are treating the matter very seriously. This incident is currently under investigation by school officials and law enforcement, and disciplinary action will be taken as outlined in our Code of Conduct. As always, incidents of this nature have the potential to result in legal action.

We understand that hearing about an incident such as this may cause some students to feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and ask you to reassure your child of our absolute commitment to their safety and security, a commitment that is shared by all of our Rondout Valley Central School District faculty and staff. Violence in our schools or on our buses will not be tolerated.

We ask families to speak with their child about the appropriateness of disseminating such content involving minors if they see it on social media or if it is sent to them by a friend. Doing so violates the school district Code of Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.

We will have support available and encourage any student who may be feeling uneasy or concerned about this event to speak with our counseling staff.

We appreciate your attention to this very serious and unfortunate matter.

Sincerely,

Joseph Morgan

Superintendent
