Mrs. Crowley and Mr. Denise are back with another edition of the Friday Fitness Challenge!

3rd grader Raiya Jagodzinski’s natural disaster project was a huge hit among her classmates! Mrs. Schoonmaker’s KES 3rd graders worked on these projects following their recent environment and ecology unit. The students researched their chosen disaster, and then used the knowledge they gained to fill in the teacher created slideshow template complete with an experiment or project to share what they learned! To finalize the assignment, their slideshows were presented to their class and teachers, and were given four friendly reviews from their peers. The students learned so much and were genuinely excited to share their projects with their class. We hope you will enjoy Raiya’s slideshow and project! (You may have to pause slide #10 to view the project video.)

Please enjoy a virtual gallery showcasing some of our talented K-12 grade student artists. The artwork on display is a combination of pieces created in school earlier this year and at home through distance learning lessons.

During this unexpected time of distance learning, the social and emotional health of our students has been a priority for the teachers and staff at Rondout Valley. Emails such as this one confirm that our efforts are not unnoticed! “Mrs. Vitti has done a nice job working with my daughter's eighth grade class. She provides content, which I think the students could take or leave sometimes. What I truly appreciate is her connection with the students, and for the students. She gives them time to be together in break out rooms to discuss aspects of their lesson.... Which they may do to some degree, but the real value is the children seeing each other and having a chance to connect. That's the huge loss here and I think Mrs. Vitti recognizes this. She is consistent in her appointments with the class and not overly demanding on their course load, while trying to respect the children as social info individuals.” Thank you to Ms. Arms for sharing this photo and these kind words.

At 3:00 PM on Memorial Day, trumpet players from across the country came together to play “Taps” in honor of our nation’s fallen heroes. Each from their own yards, driveways, and porches, students took part in “Taps Across America” and some of our High School Band students participated. We hope you will enjoy this video of RVHS Sophomore Pavlo Mysak joining in.

Please use the link below to find several parent sessions that will be available through the District’s PPS Office. Sessions will focus on accessing district and community resources including access to possible mental health supports, access to medical care and food assistance, and an opportunity to connect with others about the struggles we are facing as parents/caregivers and as a community, as well as special education services during the time of distance learning. Be sure to check the link frequently for updates and additional sessions.

Not all of our RVCSD families had internet service available at their homes when our school buildings were closed in March. Since then, the District has provided a total of 70 Rondout Valley families with Verizon jetpacks allowing them improved internet service. The jetpacks were distributed via in-district pick-up, home delivery through Social Workers or Courier, or mailed home via USPS.

As a reminder to our families, the District has put together a page dedicated to providing helpful resources for our families during this time. These resources include information about available food resources, google classroom, zoom meetings, coronavirus resources, and much more. The page can be found by using this link, or by visiting the homepage of our District website.

We come to you this morning with another Friday Fitness Challenge from our IS/JHS Phys. Ed. Department!

These 720 headbands have a combined total of 6,125 face shields! 570 of the headbands with face shields have been donated to area hospitals, nursing homes, and fire departments. There are 150 remaining that will be used in-district or distributed to other facilities in need. Teachers are continually printing these headbands.

Since the closure of our schools in March, the District has continued to ensure that our students and their siblings are not hungry. This includes the continuation of our regular backpack program, multiple pick-up locations at our schools, and home delivery of meals for those who cannot make it to our pick-up locations. We have provided over 12,500 meals to the children in our District! Thank you to all of our staff members who have showed up to prepare, deliver, and hand out meals day in and day out.

We've got another Friday Fitness Challenge for you, thanks to our IS/JHS Phys. Ed. Department!

Last week, RV teachers and staff rallied together to surprise our senior class and let them know we love and miss them so much. Here's a little behind the scenes from our senior surprise!

Today's Friday Fitness Challenge is here! Thanks to Mr. Denise and Mrs. Crowley for putting this together for our community!

Mission accomplished and the surprise has sprung! This morning, every senior received a yard sign. K-12 faculty and staff members drove across the district to let our seniors know we love them and are missing them so much! Thank you to all the teachers and staff members that helped deliver them. A special thank you to Mr. Maloney who created the awesome design and a special thank you to the RVF who covered the entire cost. Thank you to everyone that helped make this happen! It takes more than a village to raise a child; it takes a district!

RVCSD is proud to announce that the total number of face shields that have been printed using our 3D printers is up to 246! In collaboration with SUNY New Paltz, six of our staff members have been working diligently for over a week to print these face shields to assist with the PPE shortage for medical personnel in our area. Our efforts were assisted this week by the Arlington Teachers’ Association and the Arlington Central School District, who donated 5,000 transparency sheets which allowed us to continue assembling face shields with multiple sheets on each. The completed face shields have been and continue to be donated to area hospitals, nursing agencies, and other local agencies in need.
