SCHOLARSHIPS 2025
RONDOUT VALLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND, INC.

Following are the scholarships awarded in 2024. The Class of 2024 awardees received 80 scholarships totaling over $46,000. The scholarship list for 2025 may be somewhat different and will be available in January with the application packet. Scholarships range from $200 - $2,000.  
 

1.     Ayasse Scholarship:  The CHARLES F. AYASSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP given by his family for a student who plans to pursue a career in Teaching.

2.     Bell Scholarship:  The ERICA BELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a Field Hockey player who shows dedication, perseverance and fortitude.

3.     Berger Scholarship:  The S. PAUL BERGER SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP for a student who wishes to pursue studies in the Medical Field, preferably in drug addition or cure for ALS. 

4.     Blue Gander Scholarship:  The BLUE GANDER SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP for an academically successful Rondout Valley senior who plans to attend college and has exemplified Gander Spirit in words and service.

5.     Biergans Scholarship:  The JAKE BIERGANS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student with the desire to help others.

6.     Carlile Scholarship:  The SAM CARLILE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP to be awarded to a student who is planning to pursue a career in Computer Science or Mathematics.  Sam graduated from RVHS in 1988.

7.     Cook Scholarship:  The ROBERT D. COOK, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student who has outstanding strength of character, leadership capabilities, community involvement and plans to go on to higher education.

8.     Cross Scholarship:  The KATHRYN CROSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student who is outstanding in leadership, character, academics, and service and plans to complete a four-year program at a college or university.  Kathryn graduated from RVHS in 1984.

9.     Denkensohn Scholarship:  The DENKENSOHN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP given by their family and friends, for a student who intends to pursue a career in Education, and who has been involved in extracurricular activities during high school.

10.     Eastern Star Scholarship:  The EASTERN STAR WAWARSING CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP for a student who has a strong record of scholastic achievement and/or community service.

11.     Edwards Scholarship:  The DOROTHY EDWARDS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education K-6, or Nutrition.  The student should have an excellent attendance record, volunteered in the community, and have belonged to at least one school group (e.g., band, sports, social group).

12.     Friedman Scholarship:  The WHENDI FRIEDMAN-FARRIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP awarded to a student who will be an advocate for causes that have a positive effect on the well-being of others, as exemplified throughout his/her high school career.  Whendi graduated from RVHS in 1975.

13.     Gleich Scholarship:  The MITCHELL J. GLEICH SCHOLARSHIP for a student in good academic standing who has participated in Varsity sports, demonstrated school spirit, and is liked and respected by teachers and peers.

14.     Gray Scholarships:  The GLADYS M. GRAY “ONE MINUTE WITHOUT PAIN” SCHOLARSHIPS each to be awarded to two students pursuing a medical doctor’s career or medical career in a related field.

15.     Hagen Scholarships:  The INGER HAGEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS, given by her family for two students who through-out their school careers have overcome adversity, have a positive attitude, a desire to help others, determination to work hard, and have a strong record of scholastic achievement and/or community service.

16.     Hasbrouck Scholarship:  The SEVERYN “JOE” HASBROUCK, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student pursuing a career in Agriculture.

17.     Hasbrouck Scholarship:  The Vivian Hasbrouck Memorial Scholarship for a student continuing the study of music.

18.     Hess/McAvoy Scholarships:  The FDNY LT. ROBERT M. HESS and KENNY McAVOY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS given by their families and friends, each for two graduating seniors with plans for pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in  Fire Science, EMS, EMT or Paramedics.  Alternative fields could be Astronomy, History or Environmental Science. 

19.     Hilsenbeck Scholarship:  The STEVE AND JORDAN HILSENBECK MEMORIAL  SCHOLARSHIP for a student with plans for a career in Computer Science.

20.     Jansen  Scholarship: The PATRICIA A. JANSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a deserving graduating college-bound student.

21.     Little League Scholarships:  RONDOUT VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE/BILLY MOYLAN JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS for a student who participated in the RV Little League for at least two years, who has demonstrated responsibility, diligence, enthusiasm during high school and has a love of the outdoors and cherishes family connection.  

22.      Lynch Scholarship:  The FRANK and DOROTHY LYNCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student with plans for further education in Technical or Vocational studies.

23.     Mahoney Scholarship:  The JEFFERY P. MAHONEY SCHOLARSHIP for a graduating senior who was a member of the boys’ varsity baseball team and who demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship.

24.     Meehan Scholarship:  The COACH JOHN D. MEEHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP given annually by members of his family for a student who has been active in sports and outstanding for team leadership and good sportsmanship.

25.     Mertine Scholarship:  The SHARON PAGLIARONI MERTINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student who has attended BOCES and has plans for a career in the Nursing Field, Medical Profession or other Helping Field.

26.     Miller Scholarship:  The CHIEF EDDIE MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student devoted to EMT/Fire Science service to the community.

27.         Pickle Festival Scholarship:  The ROSENDALE INTERNATIONAL PICKLE FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP for a deserving student from Rosendale.

28.     Philliber Scholarship:  The PHILLIBER RESEARCH ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP for a student with plans for further education.

29.     Polcari Scholarship:  The MICHAEL ANGELO POLCARI, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student who is planning for a career in Education, and who has demonstrated significant care for others. 

30.     Previll Scholarship:  The ANGELINA C. AND AMBROSE N. PREVILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student pursuing a career in Elementary Education, Sports Education, or Technical Engineering.

31.     Previll Scholarship:  The EILEEN PREVILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP in for a student attending college for Math Education.

32.     RVBA Scholarship:  The RONDOUT VALLEY BUSINESS ASSOCIATI0N SCHOLARSHIP is for a student with career plans in Business or Entrepreneurship.
 
33.     RVSF Academic Scholarships:  The GENERAL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS for a student accepted by a two- or four-year college, with plans to complete a four-year degree program.  The student shall be an active contributor to his/her school and community.

34.     RVSF Alumni Scholarship:  The RONDOUT VALLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP for a graduating senior with plans for further education.

35.    Schiavo Scholarship:  The  JASON SCHIAVO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a student with plans to continue education in the field of Culinary Arts or Hospitality.

36.     Schoonmaker Scholarship:  The ALICE SCHOONMAKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a female student with plans to pursue a career in agriculture, nutrition or a related field.

37.     Shuster Scholarship:  The WENDY J. SHUSTER VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated talent and interest in the visual arts and who will use the award to pursue a career in the visual arts.  Wendy is an RVHS graduate.

38.     Soccer Scholarship:  The RONDOUT VALLEY GIRLS SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP for a varsity girls soccer athlete who has demonstrated community service and maintained a good academic standing through 4 years of high school.

39.   Staubly Scholarship:  The RICHARD AND WILMA STAUBLY SCHOLARHIP to provide assistance to students interested in the Field of Education.

40.     Thomas Scholarship:  The GORDON THOMAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a deserving graduating senior who is continuing into higher education with study toward a career in the areas of  Mathematics or Science.

41.     Tucker Scholarships:  The FRANCIS X. AND ELIZABETH H. TUCKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS for two students with plans to attend Ulster County Community College or SUNY New Paltz in preparation for a career in Nursing or related to health or human service.

42.     Ulster Savings Scholarship:  The ULSTER SAVINGS BANK STONE RIDGE BRANCH SCHOLARSHIP for a student who is planning to pursue higher education towards a career in Business.

43.      VanKleeck:  The SGT. GLENN VANKLEECK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  for a student pursuing a career in Criminal Justice (police officer) with a preference of SUNY ULSTER.

44.     Wilkins Scholarship:  The FAY WILKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for a Rondout Valley graduating senior who has played on the  girl’s golf team and will be attending college.

45.     Wine Scholarship:  The STONE RIDGE SPIRITS AND WINE SCHOLARSHIP for a deserving student with plans to pursue further education.

46.     WISE Scholarship:  The WISE SCHOLARSHIP for a student who has an exemplary Journal, has been a dedicated mentee, and has persevered in accomplishing a high-quality WISE project.

48.     Zinaman Scholarship:  The SANDI ZINAMAN LITERARY SCHOLARSHIP to recognize a student who demonstrates passion and commitment to Literary Studies, Creative Writing, or Library Science.

49.     NEW SCHOLARSHIP
Hommel Scholarship:  The BRIAN HOMMEL HOME IMPROVEMENT, LLC SCHOLARSHIP is for a student pursing a career in Carpentry  (Millwork Project Manager, Carpenter Foreman, Journeyman Carpenter, Master Carpenter, Residential Carpenter, Finish Carpenter, Mason, Framing, Exterior Carpentry), Electrical, Plumbing or Heating/HVAC.
