District Equity Council

What is the Rondout Valley District Equity Council?

The purpose of the Rondout Valley District Equity Council is to identify areas where the school district could make progress toward a more equitable school experience and workplace and to offer solutions and strategies for accelerating progress. The District Equity Council will include several stakeholder groups that can offer insight and support around the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and policy.

More specifically, the council will:

  • Serve as advisors, providing input as the district makes key decisions around the tasks outlined in its strategic plan and DEI policy;
  • Learn about district equity initiatives first-hand from district students and staff;
  • Bring forth concerns so that the district can work with the larger RV community to seek solutions; and
  • Periodically analyze district data for disproportionate student outcomes and experiences.

We believe this group will serve as a critical bridge between the school district and all stakeholder groups.

Membership

The District Equity Council will be made up of family and community members, teachers, students, staff and administrators who are dedicated to understanding, identifying, addressing and eliminating the biases, barriers and disparities that limit a student’s school experience. We are looking for council members who understand that students and staff thrive in an environment free from discrimination and harassment, and that our learning environments must promote respect and diversity in order to ensure student success. Anyone interested in joining the council should reach out to Meg Braren via the email listed on this page.

The District Equity Council will meet in-person for the 24-25  school year. Dates are to be determined.
