Rondout Valley Indoor Track and Field Teams Make History!

Rondout Valley girls and boys Indoor Track and Field teams made history at West Point on Friday, January 20, 2023! Both teams won OCIAA Divisional titles in the same season for the first time ever.

Rondout Valley girls and boys Indoor Track and Field teams made history at West Point on Friday, January 20, 2023! Both teams won OCIAA Divisional titles in the same season for the first time ever. The boys defended last season’s championship, and the girls won their division convincingly beating the next closest team by 125 points. Both teams showed great all-around depth and talent scoring multiple places in most sprint, jump, distance and throwing events.
 
For the boys team seniors Ryan Britt and Morgan LeBlanc led the jumps taking 1st and 2nd in the long jump and 1st and 3rd in triple jump. Thomas Clark won the high jump and Morgan LeBlanc took 2nd placing in all three of his jumping events. Jackson Paley had a personal best of 10’ 6” in the pole vault taking 2nd.
 
On the track, senior distance runner Chris Jordan took 1st in the 3200 meter, 2nd in the 1600 meter and anchored the 2nd place 4 x 800 relay team. In the hurdles, seniors Chris Kay and Julian Browne took 1st and 2nd. Freshman Jacob Kraft took 1st in the 1000 meter with a come from behind victory. Senior hurdlers Chris Kay and Julian Browne took 1st and 2nd in the 55 meter high hurdles and senior Matt Peck took 2nd in the weight throw.
 
For the girl’s senior jumper Kayla Oakes took 1st in both long and triple jump and 2nd in the high jump. Jacqueline Kennedy won the 55 meter dash, took 2nd place in long jump and 2nd place in the 300 meter dash. Junior jumper Merryn Arms tied for 1st in pole vault with teammate Sierra Hikade and took 3rd place in high jump.
 
The RV girls distance team dominated the track 8th grader Greta Sutherland-Roth taking 1st in the 3000 and 2nd in the 1500, Isabel Kinsella took 2nd in the 3000 and 3rd in the 1500. Eighth grader Hannah Chapin took 1st in the 1000 meter and Vivian Gonzales took 1st in the 1500 race walk. The girls distance team also won the 4 x 800 meter relay. Olivia Waruch took 2nd in the 600, 4th in the 300 and anchored the winning 4 x 400 relay team with Riley Schoonmaker, Joleigh Kozak and Mackenzie Heyl who also took 2nd in triple jump.
 
For the girls throwers Victoria DeGraw took 2nd in the shot put and Riley Schoonmaker took 3rd and Caitlyn Sindt took 3rd in the weight throw.
