Rondout Valley Track Team Impresses!

Rondout Valley hosted 13 Section 9 Class C and 12 Class D schools on Thursday, May 25, as they competed for their respective Championship titles. The Rondout girls emerged victorious, claiming the Section 9 Class C Championship, while the Rondout boys achieved an impressive 3rd place finish, showcasing a remarkable performance.

Section 9 Champions for the boys include:

  • Julian Browne 110 m Hurdles 
  • Thomas Clark 400 m Hurdles 

Other top scoring male athletes for Rondout include 2nd place Chris Kay and 3rd overall Thomas Clark in the 110 meter hurdles. Chris Jordan was 3rd place in the 3200 meter race. Gander boys took 2nd overall in the 4x400 meter relay and 3rd in both the 4x100 and the 4x800 meter relays. In long jump, Ryan Britt and Morgan LeBlanc took 2nd and 4th, respectively. Morgan was 2nd and Ryan 3rd in triple jump. Jackson Paley and Jack Kotsides were 4th and 6th in pole vault. Matt Peck was 5th in the discus throw and 3rd in shot put, with Liam Walsh taking 6th in shot put. Jack Samko took an impressive 2nd place overall in the Pentathlon for the Gander boys.

Section 9 Girls’ Champions were:

  • Kayla Oakes Triple Jump
  • Olivia Waruch 400 m Hurdles
  • Greta Sutherland-Roth 2000 m Steeplechase 
  • 4x100 m Relay (Riley Owens, Kayla Oakes, Olivia Waruch, Jacqueline Kennedy)

Other Rondout top scoring girls were Jacqueline Kennedy (2nd), Kayla Oakes (3rd) and Olivia Waruch (4th) in the 100 meter dash. Clara Samko placed 4th in the 800 meter race. 8th grader Hannah Chapin took 5th in the 1500 and 4th in the 3000 meter race, while her teammate and fellow 8th grader, Greta Sutherland-Roth placed 3rd in the 3000 meters before winning the Steeplechase. 7th grader Shawna Whitaker, took 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. In the 400 Hurdles, Senior Mackenzie Heyl placed 4th and Junior Olivia Waruch took 1st place. Rondout girls won the 4x100 meter relay, took 2nd in the 4x800 relay and 4th in the 4x400 meter relay. Merryn Arms was 2nd in high jump. Kayla Oakes was 2nd in long jump with Jacqueline Kennedy and Madeline Malak taking 5th and 6th. Maddie Malak took 4th in triple jump and Grace Kiszkiel placed 6th. Victoria DeGraw was 2nd in discus and 5th in shot put. In Pentathlon, Rondout girls took 4th, 5th, and 6th with 8th grader Hazel Shaffer-Sermini (4th), Annika Mahaney (5th) and Adeline Delesssio (6th).
