Benny Calcagno Named RVCSD's 2025 Distinguished Friend of Education

Benny Calcagno, owner of Benny's Pizzeria in Stone Ridge, has received the Ulster County School Boards Association (UCSBA) Distinguished Friend of Education Award.

The annual award recognizes residents from the county’s school districts and Ulster BOCES for their dedication and commitment to students and schools.

Calcagno was selected by the Rondout Valley Central School District for his extraordinary commitment and service to the Rondout Valley school community. His generosity, leadership, and vision have made a lasting impact on our schools, our children, our veterans, and the spirit of our town.

Mr. Calcagno’s contributions include providing free lunches for any student in our district during the COVID-19 crisis, an act of kindness and support that not only nourished our students physically but also gave comfort and reassurance to families who needed it most during a difficult time. He continues to invest in the growth and recognition of our youth through the “Student Athlete of the Month” program, which celebrates outstanding student athletes by proudly displaying their photos both at our schools and inside his restaurant. He is also a tireless advocate for our local veterans, bringing our community together to honor and recognize those who have served our country through events, initiatives, and ongoing acts of appreciation.

In addition, Mr. Calcagno and his family are longtime pillars of this community and, as both business owners and neighbors, they embody the values of service, kindness, and community spirit. Through his consistent donations, partnerships, and community engagement, he exemplifies what it means to be a true community leader.

Mr. Calcagno has shown through his contributions during times of crisis, his ongoing support of education and athletics, his dedication to our veterans, and his family’s longstanding role as a cornerstone of our community that he deserves to be honored as a Distinguished Friend of Education. He has set a standard of service that inspires us all.
