Emergency Closing & Remote Instruction Procedures

As we move further into the school year, we want to provide an update regarding our emergency closing procedures. Currently, the District has used 3 of our 5 allotted emergency closing days for the 2025-2026 school year.

We would like to remind families that we have a Remote Instruction Plan in place, which was established as a standard protocol in recent years. This plan serves as a contingency to be used only if we exhaust all allotted emergency closing days and face further weather-related issues or emergency conditions.

How this will work for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year:

  • Next 2 emergency closures: Schools will be closed as usual (traditional "snow days").
  • Subsequent closures: Any closures following the 5th day will transition to Remote Instruction Days.

As with any other emergency closing or delay, a transition to remote instruction will be communicated to families via our robo calling system as early as possible to allow for families to make appropriate accommodations.

Below, you will find the details of the remote instruction plan, including student expectations and daily schedules. We encourage you to keep these materials accessible so your household is prepared should the need arise.

Thank you for your continued partnership and flexibility as we work to keep our students safe while maintaining their learning progress.

Sincerely,

Paul M. Spadaro, Ph.D.

Subject: Expectations for Students During Remote Instruction

Please review the guidelines below to ensure a smooth transition for your child if we need to shift to remote instruction.

  • Attendance & Schedule:
    • Students are required to attend school online during regular school hours and follow their standard daily schedule.
    • Attendance will be taken each day within the designated schedule.
  • Instructional Format:
    • Instruction will include both synchronous (live instruction via Zoom) and asynchronous (assignments/lessons to be completed at the student’s own pace in Google Classroom) components.
    • Students must complete and submit all required assignments by the due dates.

  • Access to Resources:
    • Technology and Devices
      • Grades K-4: Students will be provided with a school-issued iPad to be taken home in anticipation of needing to utilize remote learning.
      • Grades 5-12: Students already have individual school-issued devices assigned for at-home use.
    • Curriculum, assignments, and Zoom links will be accessible through Google Classroom.
    • Special Education and Related Services will be provided as needed.

  • Live Instruction Requirements:
    • Grades K-3: Minimum of 90 minutes per day of live instruction via Zoom, divided into core instructional topics. Sessions may occur at different times throughout the day as defined by the teacher.
    • Grades 4-5: Minimum of 120 minutes per day of live instruction via Zoom, divided into core instructional topics. Sessions may occur at different times throughout the day as defined by the teacher.
    • K-5 Special Areas (Art, Music, PE, Library): Minimum of 15 minutes of live instruction per session.
    • Academic Intervention Services & ENL: Minimum of 15 minutes of live instruction per session.
    • Grades 6-12: Students join class at the beginning of every class for at least 15 minutes of live instruction, then work on assignments as directed by the teacher.

  • Student Engagement & Support:
    • Students are expected to be present and engaged in all virtual instruction.
    • Grades 6-12 students are encouraged to seek assistance from teachers and guidance counselors and to advocate for themselves.
    • K-6 students may be issued consumable materials for long-term use.

  • Parent Communication:
    • Parent meetings and conferences may be scheduled to occur virtually.

  • Instructional Variety:
    • Remote instruction will not consist solely of face-to-face interactions. It may include answering posted questions, participating in project-based learning, individual Zoom conferences, online discussions, and presenting assignments in individual or group settings.

If you have questions or need support, please reach out to your teacher or school counselor.
