RV Middle School Bands Excel!

Rondout Valley Middle School students shone brightly on May 17th, as the bands of Rondout Valley Intermediate School and Junior High School swept the competition at the Music in the Parks Festival held in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The results were nothing short of extraordinary:

  • The Rondout Valley 5th & 6th Grade Concert Band achieved a SUPERIOR RATING and, securing 1st Place in the Elementary School Division.
  • The Rondout Valley 7th & 8th Grade Jazz Band achieved a SUPERIOR RATING and claimed the top spot in the Junior High School Jazz Band Division.
  • The Rondout Valley 7th & 8th Grade Concert Band achieved a SUPERIOR RATING, clinching 1st Place in the Junior High School Division. 

In the words of one judge, their performance was described as "Superb!!!!!"

But the accolades didn't stop there. The Rondout Valley bands also swept the special awards:

  • The Rondout Valley 7th & 8th Jazz Band was honored with the prestigious "BEST OVERALL JAZZ BAND" 
  • Similarly, the Rondout Valley 7th & 8th Concert Band earned the coveted "BEST OVERALL CONCERT BAND"
  • Gabby Castro, a 7th grader, was awarded the "BEST JAZZ SOLOIST AWARD" spanning all grade levels.

Additionally, the Rondout Valley Bands were honored with the ESPRIT de CORPS AWARD.  This award recognizes the band's positive support, outstanding personal behavior, and embodiment of qualities such as personal integrity, character values, desire for excellence, and spirit of cooperation.

Adjudicator, Steven Katzenmoyer said of our 7th & 8th Grade Band students, “Your students are so incredibly well behaved, polite, mature, they represent Rondout Valley so very well, like young professionals, not junior high students.”

Adjudicator, Ronald Demkee said of the 5th & 6th Grade Band, "It's truly wonderful to see and hear these kids doing creative music! Just so many wonderful things going on at your school! Thank you for working so, so hard to make music possible for so, so many kids!"
