Winter Recess Letter from the Superintendent

As we enjoy Winter Recess, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish our school community a happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season. During this season of gratitude, I want you to know how much I appreciate our Rondout Valley community and value the uniqueness of each of our students, parents, families, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. The diversity found within this community, along with the way it is embraced and celebrated, ultimately makes Rondout Valley a better place and makes me proud to be a Gander.

Dear Rondout Valley Community,

As we enjoy Winter Recess, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish our school community a happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season. During this season of gratitude, I want you to know how much I appreciate our Rondout Valley community and value the uniqueness of each of our students, parents, families, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. The diversity found within this community, along with the way it is embraced and celebrated, ultimately makes Rondout Valley a better place and makes me proud to be a Gander.

Over the last few weeks, the beauty of our diversity was brought to life throughout each of our buildings. From lessons that showcased holidays around the world, festive musical events, and cultural treats enjoyed among classmates—it was truly special to see our students share their unique traditions, beliefs, and customs with each other.

The various celebrations brought warmth and care to our community, and allowed us to shine a light on a few of the many positive things that are happening throughout the Rondout Valley Central School District. They also inspired us to look deeply at what we could do better, a commitment we have made and will remain focused on as we enter the new year. We believe that growth–both personal growth that each of us has the capacity for, as well as growth as a District–is the beacon that will light the path to a community where greater acceptance, safety, and success for all flourishes.

Our highest priority as a school district is to ensure that all students are successful. In order to achieve that, we must first identify and remove any barriers to student success and wellbeing. We truly believe that when we commit to fulfilling this promise, all students and all members of our community benefit.

We hope that you will consider discussing these important thoughts and themes with your families over the holidays, and together reflect on what you believe makes Rondout Valley so special. I’d like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. While the holidays can be a time of joy and warmth, they can also be a time of stress for families. I wish all families in our community care and kindness during this season and may 2023 be a year of peace, prosperity, and health for all.

Sincerely,

Joseph Morgan
