RVHS Music Students Attend Opera

The Rondout Valley High School Music Department recently gave its students an unforgettable opportunity to witness the magic of opera firsthand, attending a dress rehearsal of “Il Trovatore” at the renowned Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

This immersive experience allowed students to see world-class talent and production values up close, as the iconic opera by Giuseppe Verdi was brought to life on the grand stage.

The trip was part of the department’s ongoing commitment to exposing students to professional musical performances and enhancing their understanding of diverse musical genres. For many students, it was their first time experiencing the grandeur of the Met, and the emotional power of Verdi's music left a lasting impression.

“We wanted to give our students a unique opportunity to see how music comes together in such a monumental setting,” shared Julianna McCarthy, Director of the Rondout Valley High School Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz ensembles. “The sheer scale of the production, musicianship, and the technical expertise involved in a performance at the Met was truly inspiring for the students to see firsthand. This will be a wonderful memory for our students to reflect upon for years to come.”
