Rondout Valley High School Principal's Award Recipient Named

Congratulations to Rondout Valley High School senior Borny Patwoary who was named this year’s Principal’s Award recipient.

The Principal's Award recognizes a student who strives for excellence at school and is hardworking, enthusiastic, reliable, and able to get along well with other students.

A student who has made a lasting impact on the Rondout Valley school community, Borny will graduate with 31.5 overall credits, including Honors, Advanced Placement, and Collegiate course credits. He has earned 14 college credits through SUNY Ulster by taking college-level courses. Borny is also in the Honors Science Research program, which has earned him 10 college credits through the University at Albany. He will graduate with a Regents with Advanced Designation Diploma, with the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and a Seal of Civics. This fall he will be attending Lafayette College where he will major in economics and minor in environmental studies on the pre-law track.

Beyond the classroom, Borny is the president of Environmental Club, a peer leader for Newcomers Uplifted, president of the Community Service Club, treasurer of Student Congress, a member of Science Olympiad and the National Honor Society, and the captain of the Varsity Tennis team. He has been a leader in bringing back the school newspaper, the “Rondout Journal,” and takes pride in being the founder and editor in chief. Outside of school he is part of the Hudson Valley Peace Organization and Climate Action Project.

Borny lives by the quote “Carpe Diem,” and Principal Jessica Torok shared that he makes sure everyone around him seizes the day as well. “Borny is a born leader,” she said. “He is a true go-getter who consistently takes initiative and leads with purpose. You can always count on him. He follows through, brings others along, and ensures every student has access to the best opportunities. His character reflects a deep commitment to doing what is right.”
